Sisters Serena Williams and Venus Williams have come face-to-face on the battlefield, also known as the tennis court, over 25 times, but none of those matches compared to the intensity displayed Tuesday night, Sept. 8. The two gathered their best rackets and channeled their inner athletic diva for the quarterfinals at the United States Open in New York. Despite older sister Venus putting up a hell of a fight, Serena prevailed with a victorious win, bringing her closer and closer to the possibility of another Grand Slam.

Fans of all ages and celebrity status poured into the Arthur Ashe Stadium from left to right, in anticipation to see which Williams sister would advance to the semifinals. Sibling rivalry is nothing new for the Compton natives, which is why it was at an all time high last night, leaving everyone in the stadium intoxicated by the competition. Barely making eye contact on the turf and executing all their emotions through the powerful swings of their rackets and grunts, the match almost became uneasy to watch.

Despite Venus, 35, earning a quick win during the second set, younger sister Serena, 33, won the first set and later brought the game home during in the third set for a surprising victory. When it was all said and done, the two embraced in an emotional hug whispering congratulatory words into each other's ears. The final scores were 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

Serena, who's been rumored to be dating the crooner of rap, Drake, will now advance to the Grand Slam singles semifinals against Italian powerhouse Roberta Vinci. Serena is already the unspoken fan favorite for this future match due to her undefeated record against Vinci, which include four consecutive victories. Although remaining confident about her skills, Serena believes Vinci will be showcasing an entirely different side of her for their forthcoming match.

"She's going to present a completely different game than my last three matches, four matches. She has nothing to lose. I don't, either. So we're just going to go out and have a lot of fun," she's said.

When it's all said and done the Williams sisters have not only redefined the way game of tennis, but also the way the media views female athletes. From the nostalgic days of braids and beads in their hair to starting fashion lines and winning countless titles, there's no denying the impact these two have made in the world of sports.
