The past few months have definitely been rough for former The View co-host, Rosie O'Donnell, after her daughter Chelsea was reported missing, then later found; and the custody battle between she and ex-wife Michelle Rounds, over her youngest daughter Dakota, has gotten ugly. But even despite all the back and forth between the two regarding the legal issue, O'Donnell still managed to be there for Rounds during her recent suicide attempt, stopping a tragedy and saving her life.

Closer Weekly reported O'Donnell's 43-year-old ex-wife overdosed on sleeping pills and was taken to the hospital on the evening of Sept. 22. Although it is unclear how O'Donnell was made aware of the situation, it was her phone call to Rounds that kept her alive.

According to TMZ, the 53-year-old actress "got wind of Michelle's plan" and immediately took action to assist as much as she possibly could. According to the report, O'Donnell had another person place a call to 911 while she stayed on the phone with Rounds until EMTs arrived.

The site states that O'Donnell is the reason that Rounds is still alive today, and what may have triggered the suicide attempt was losing custody of her daughter, Dakota, in the nasty custody battle the two have been facing.

In May, TMZ reported that the legal battle for custody had begun and O'Donnell showed up in court, not so talkative but showing resolve, as she prepared herself to face the judge and fight to keep their daughter. The case grew nastier when Rounds claimed that O'Donnell would be unfit as a mother because she drinks and smokes weed. O'Donnell later responded to her ex-wife's allegations saying that Rounds didn't really want custody, she just wanted the money she would get by having full custody of their 2-year-old.

A source close to both women stated that although the custody battle has been stressful for Rounds she did not try to take her own life. According to ET Online, the overdose of sleeping pills was actually a bad reaction to medication she was taking both for stress and for her condition of desmoid tumors.

The source also explained how going through a public divorce and custody battle could be a bit overwhelming for people.

"Being in the public eye is difficult," ET wrote according to their source. "This life is stressful for her. Michelle is taking the time she needs to focus on herself and her daughter."

O'Donnell was reportedly by Rounds' side while in the hospital as well.
