One Direction didn't just win big at the 2015 AMAs, the "Perfect" band also won out on social media. As 1D took home its second Artist of the Year awards in as many years, they also were the most-discussed act on Twitter, besting fellow big teen acts such as Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande.

According to Billboard, Twitter did a running analysis during the awards ceremony to calculate who was most discussed, and 1D got the most discussion rolling. Pop in. It seems that anything pop was a hot topic of discussion this year at the AMAs; Bieber, Gomez, Grande and Demi Lovato also had big followings and discussions online.

Twitter also analyzed the most important moments during the show, and One Direction was the catalyst for one of the biggest. When the band took the stage and won the award for Favorite Pop-Rock Group, it was the singular moment that sparked the most conversations on Twitter.

It beat out Carrie Underwood's performance of "Heartbeat," 1D's Artist of the Year, Gwen Stefani's performance of "Used to Love You" and Bieber's three song performance of his biggest Purpose hits.

While One Direction may have won at the AMAs, Bieber topped the group with No. 1 album with Purpose beating out Made in the A.M. It has been a widely publicized race between the two pop acts, but the success of Bieber's top 10 singles that were released ahead of the album gave him the edge. It is additionally his sixth No. 1 album and it sold 649,000 units total. In comparison One Direction hit No. 2 album in the country and sold 459,000 units total.
