Sludge metal icons the Melvins and grindcore greats Napalm Death have announced they are co-headlining a North American tour in 2016 with support from Japanese noise rockers Melt-Banana. The three bands hit the road for what they've dubbed the Spring Savage Imperial Death March Tour in March and trek across the continent until May with stops nearly every night.

Napalm Death's bassist Shane Embury said in a statement that the band had "been talking about doing a tour like this for a long time, so [they] are thrilled it's finally happening," Exclaim! reports. He continues: "Having been longtime fans and friends of the Melvins we are very happy to be embarking on this six-week tour of musical madness with them and Melt Banana. Expect the unexpected!"

Buzz Osborne, the guitarist, lead vocalist and technically the last remaining founding member of the Melvins, added: "Napalm Death sounds like a gorilla on LSD firing a machine gun... and I mean that in a good way. We're happy to be heading out with the ultimate grindcore pioneers."

Members of both headlining bands go way back: they collaborated together as a part of Venemous Concept for 2004's Retroactive Abortion album.

As Rolling Stone points out, the co-headliners have a lot more in common than cutting an album together. Both bands have attempted to break different Guinness World Records. In 2012 the Melvins tried to break George Thorogood's world record for fastest U.S. tour but did not succeed. The band recently released a film, Across the USA in 51 Days: The Movie!, which documents the attempt with one minute-long clips of each show. Meanwhile, Napalm Death hold the world record for the world's shortest song ever written and recorded: "You Suffer," from the band's 1987 debut entitled Scum, clocks in at a mere 1.316 seconds long.
