Up to three gunman stormed a service center in Sen Bernardino, California killing 14 people, and wounding 17 others. Hours after the shooting, police engaged in a shootout with two suspects in a nearby suburban neighborhood. A third suspect, seen running away from the scene, was detained. Officials say they do not know the extent of his involvement. President Barack Obama has responded to the mass shooting news in a video that you can watch below.

According to the New York Times, witnesses hid in their houses as a gun battle raged outside their doors. Police patrolled the neighborhood with heavy armor and tactical equipment. As reported by Chief Jarrod Burguan of the San Bernardino, the two dead suspects, a woman and a man, were armed with several weapons including assault weapons and handguns.

The shootout was spurred by an attack at 11:00 am on Wednesday on a complex of building occupied by the Indland Regional Center. The organization provides services for people with disabilities. Although officials had not detailed a motive of the shooters, Chief Burguan said the attack had been "planned."

"They came prepared for what they did and they were on a mission," the chief said. "They came in with a purpose."

Chief Burguan also said they could not confirm any notions of a terrorist plot, other than the clear domestic terrorism that occurred. "We have no information at this point to indicate this is terrorist related in the sense that people may have been thinking," the chief said, adding, "We have a domestic terrorism-type situation that occurred here."

The attack in San Bernardino came five days after a deadly attack in Colorado Springs at a Planned Parenthood facility. The attack left three people dead and nine wounded, and added to the epidemic of mass shootings that has plagued the country as of late.

Speaking of the tragedy in California, President Obama said, according to NBC News, "We have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world."
