The lyrics to her song, "Follow Your Arrow" make it pretty clear that Kacey Musgraves doesn't judge people by their sexuality, so it shouldn't be a surprise that the Grammy winner will be the first country artist to perform at the New York GLAAD Media Awards.

Her acceptance of the LGBT community has gotten her some recent heat. Right Wing Watch reported that on his April 10 radio program, Pastor Kevin Swanson said that if Musgraves had performed her song at any time between the 1880s and the 1960s, it would have gotten her killed: "Let me say this, if she had sang that thing in a country bar in the 1920s or 1880s in Denver, Colorado, somebody would’ve called for a rope, 'Get a rope!' You know what would have happened, she would not have made it out of town in the 1880s, 1920s, 1940s or 1960s, he said.

As for Kacey, she doesn't seem to be worried about what people think about the line, "Make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys/Or kiss lots of girls, if that's something that you're into." She told Rolling Stone, "It just feels good to be [working] in a time period there's room for everyone."

And as part of the "everyone," on May 3rd, Musgraves, who was the 2013 GLAAD Spirit Day Ambassador, will be introduced by openly gay country singer Chely Wright at the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which will be held at the Waldorf Astoria.

Other special guests for the New York event will be Candis Cayne (Elementary), Dennis Starr, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Robin Weigert, Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black), Stacie Passon (Concussion), Joan Koplan, Irwin Koplan, Christa Stephens (Small Town Security), GLAAD National Spokespersons, Wilson Cruz and Omar Sharif, Jr., and GLAAD CEO & President Sarah Kate Ellis.

In a press release, GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis talked about the event and the significance of having Kacey performing, saying, "America's heartland is changing and support for equality continues to grow across party lines, in our faith institutions, and in country music. Kacey Musgraves is ushering in a new era in the country music industry, where supporting all loving families is now a core country value. It's only fitting then that Kacey is to become the first country music artist to perform at the New York GLAAD Media Awards."
