Star Trek Beyond has a release date set for July 22, 2016, but this week we were treated to the movie's first trailer, which has already garnered mixed reviews from fans. Director Justin Lin is known for his work in the Fast and Furious franchise, making him a great candidate for another action film, but does the sci-fi and space aspects of the Star Trek franchise too much for the filmmaker? According to Twitter reactions to the first preview of the film, Beyond looks like Fast and Furious in space, which might not be a good thing. Watch it below!

The Fast and Furious movies are great for what they are, racking up plenty of critical and commercial success over the years, but Lin's helming of the third Star Trek film is already rubbing fans the wrong way. Of course, as Slash Film points out, it's unfair to judge an entire film that's about seven months away from a release by a 90-second preview. If anything, we should just take the trailer as a promising taste of the action and wait for more footage to show us the story.
