We know that the next film based on Marvel Comics' X-Men character Wolverine (so far known as Wolverine 3) will conclude a series of fan-favorite movies starring Hugh Jackman as the popular mutant. The actor announced his retirement from the role last year, and we haven't heard much news since. This week while attending the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, Jackman shared some updates, explaining that a script is almost complete. He also detailed the reasons why the film is taking a while to be made.

"We have a script. A full script. To tell you, two days ago I got that the full finished-well, it's not finished, but we're getting super close-as you can see by the rate of my facial hair," the acclaimed actor told Collider in a new video interview this week. "That might give you a good clue that perhaps... yeah, it's sooner rather than later."

A finished script is clearly a great sign for the film. We could be looking at a production date in early 2016, but we'll have to wait for an official confirmation before we get too excited.

Without sharing too many details or any spoilers, Jackman opened up about his passion for the franchise and why he's taking his time with his last one.

"My thing and I've told you and I've told everyone, it's my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it's perfect, bang, we'll go," the Australian movie star explained, according to Gamma Squad.

The next and final Wolverine movie has a release date set for March 3, 2017. You can check out this video interview of Jackman (and his Eddie the Eagle costar Taron Egerton) right here:
