The Arsenio Hall Show made its late-night comeback this year, but because of low ratings has been cancelled after a single season.

Variety reported that CBS made the announcement on Friday, citing the show's inability to gain enough viewers.

"Unfortunately, 'The Arsenio Hall Show' will not return for a second season; while there are many loyal fans of the show, the series did not grow its audience enough to continue," CBS said in a statement. "Arsenio is a tremendous talent and we'd like to thank him for all the hard work and energy he put into the show. We'd also like to thank Tribune and all our station group partners for their support of the show."

Hall had hoped to recreate the success he had 20 years ago, but despite showcasing a number of high-profile guests including Prince, Kendrick Lamar and R. Kelly since its September 9th premiere, the show had problems with booking.

"My one regret was that we had many, many celebrities who told us they wanted to do the show but we couldn't get their reps to book them," Hall's manager and executive producer John Ferriter said.

The show's cancellation comes as a surprise as CBS originally said the show would return for a second season. However, when the show faced "significant downgrades from stations," the network determined it wouldn't be financially viable. The Arsenio Hall Show's last original segment was on May 21.
