Kristin Welchez used to front the indie rock outfit the Dum Dum Girls as Dee Dee, but has recently taken up a new moniker for her solo pop project, Kristin Kontrol. This week, Sub Pop Records officially shared the release date of the debut solo record, X-Communicate, and shared the title track from the highly anticipated album, which will be available May 27, 2016. As you can imagine, the pop sound of Kristin's new project is very different than the Dum Dum Girls. Leading up to this week's record announcement, Welchez explained in a new press release her desire to create a pop album and how Kristin Kontrol came to be.

"For me as leader of Dum Dum Girls it felt very stoic and serious, and I am serious, but anyone who really knows me knows I'm silly, too; I smile a lot," she explained. "As the years went on, it was so weird that I kept so much of me out of what I was doing creatively. The first music I really identified as my own was very poppy, classic 80s, from Debbie Gibson and Tiffany to Janet Jackson and Madonna. I didn't want to make a record with typical rock vocals."
