Perhaps it's old news that old rappers think modern rap isn't up to snuff with the stuff of the "golden age of hip-hop," but DMC, the latter half of Run-DMC, gave some fairly poignant comments on the current state of the genre speaking to the UK publication Metro.

"A rapper will use the excuse, 'They don't go after Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis when they make their violent movies.'" DMC, aka Daryl McDaniels, said. "I go, 'If you're going to use that, get off the mic, don't produce. I'll personally kick your a-- out of hip-hop - if you're using that excuse, go be an actor."

Unlike when Birdman defended the apology-inducing lines of Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, DMC said rappers need to look on the bright side every once in a while. He acknowledged that Run-DMC rapped about violence, but said they tried to counter it with positive statements somewhere else on the album.

"If you make a record about a gun, on that same record or album there's gotta be something about not using a gun," he explained. "If you're making a record on the bitches or the hoes, there's gotta be a record about your aunt who worked all the days of her life to send her children to college."

Still, he acknowledged that some of modern hip-hop was worse just because it was rushed, describing it as "98 percent bad demos." Still, a positive message would go a long way he said.

"The reason hip-hop exists is because it started out with good intentions," he explained. "Once all the good intentions left, the music became polluted, it became disrespectful, it became immature."
