Back in 2012, the legendary Elton John filmed one of his many performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where he held a 3-year residency at the time. After all was said and done, it was screened in approximately 700 cinemas across the country on both March 18 and March 26. Now, Yamaha Entertainment and Eagle Rock Entertainment are gearing up to release the performance on Blu-ray and DVD.
The special two-hour concert film / documentary will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on June 30 in the UK and on July 1 in the United States. Not only will it contain a wonderful catalogue of music but there will also be various documentary-like segments on top of a "Making of..." feature and four additional tracks.
The idea behind The Million Dollar Piano is credited as being a "shared dream" between both Elton John and Yamaha Entertainment Group founder Chris Gero. "We were thrilled with the response to the debut of the film in theaters, and we are equally excited to bring the documentary into people's homes," says Gero.
The actual "million dollar piano" appearing in the film features more than 68 LED video screens and provides different scenery for each song.
Gero adds, "Not only did we document the experience of an Elton John performance, but we also documented the design and build of this amazing instrument and the entire show. We're honored to make and share a piece of history with such an iconic artist as Elton John."
In speaking of the concert/documentary, Elton John has said, "It's unlike anything I have done before, a complete mix, a showcase of all my music, accompanied by spectacular scenery and beautiful video images."
