Berlin-based techno producer Boys Noize, born Alex Ridha, had been quiet for almost all of 2015, but he is making his presence felt this year with loads of new music that is culminating in a new album Mayday out later this spring. The "Overthrow" DJ premiered went on Beats 1 with Zane Lowe earlier today to premiere a new song "Starchild" featuring Minneapolis band Polica as the World Record.

The song is a bit softer than one might expect from Boys Noize. The song starts out with soft guitar and atmospheric synths underneath Channy Leaneagh's vocals. A little techno comes into the track with some sped up percussion and soft low end that doesn't overwhelm the violin and elegant strings on the rest of the track.

Speaking to before and after the premiere, Boys Noize explained how he linked up with Polica for this unorthodox collaboration. He was introduced to them by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon at the band's Eau Claire Festival, where Ridha was the only DJ.

Boys Noize and Polica connected there and then spent three days and nights in the studio making music. He took a drum machine and a synth to their studio in Minneapolis and "Starchild" was the first song to emerge from their "magical" time together.

The single is the latest to emerge from Boys Noize upcoming album Mayday that will be released on May 20. No further details have been revealed about the record, but with less than 2 months to go until release, expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks.

Speaking about making a new album, Ridha said, "The way I approach my album is still been the same because I basically always start from zero let the sounds decide where it's going." He didn't want to do something four-four this time around, so this album will be a bit different.
