In last season’s finale of “The Blacklist,” Mr. Kaplan single-handedly caused Red to lose everything. In the upcoming new season, Red (James Spader) is going to rebuild his empire now that Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) is dead. He’s going to need help and it will be no less than Liz (Megan Boone) who will do that.

Whether she will quit the Task Force and be immersed in her father’s criminal activities remain to be see. But, being her father’s daughter and after being trained by Tom (Ryan Eggold) for four years, she may be able to play both sides according to TV Fanatic.

Meanwhile, one of the storylines that may happen in the new season of “The Blacklist” is the first meeting of Liz and Katarina’s father. That is, if Red even allows it to happen. He is not ready to admit everything to Liz and will not risk Dom spilling more of his secrets.

Red hasn’t been entirely truthful even as he had already confirmed that he was Liz’ biological father. One clue is when he went to the farm looking for the suitcase which has been revealed to contain pieces of the skeleton of an unknown person.

He was unable to get his hands to it, however, since Tom already had it. Upon the instructions of Mr. Kaplan, he was to deliver it to Liz. But, the trailer for “The Blacklist” Season 9 shows Tom opening the mysterious suitcase himself. It may not even get to Liz as Mr. Kaplan would have wanted.

Aside from the mystery of the suitcase, the backstory of Red will also be revealed in the new season of “The Blacklist,” especially the time he spent in Russia. EP Jon Bokenkamp teased that “there were a lot of interesting materials to use from Red's secret connection to the Russians" reports Entertainment Weekly. For one, Katarina was Russian and Red was a naval intelligence officer who dealt with the Russians.

"The Blacklist" Season 5 will premieres October 4, Wednesday, on NBC. Share your thoughts about the new season on the comments section below.
