Starz is developing a John Wick spin-off for television titled The Continental. The series will feature an appearance by Keanu Reeves.

What Is The Series About?

The Continental centers on the Continental Hotel John and other hitmen go to as their safe harbor in the movies. Reeves will simply appear in The Continental, but the actor will not necessarily be seen in all episodes of the show. He will also serve as executive producer for the upcoming project.

Chris Albrecht, CEO of Starz, released a statement and expressed his excitement over the series.

"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV. The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introduce some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world," said Albrecht.

Chris Collins will pen the script and serve act as the showrunner for The Continental if Starz will move forward with the project. The original film's creative team will also be working for the TV offshoot.

Franchise's Success

The John Wick movies, which were produced by Lionsgate, became a massive success following their 2014 and 2017 release. The franchise grossed nearly $300 million for the two films. A third installment is slated for release in 2019.

Keanu Reeves Opens Up About The Movie

Earlier this year, Reeves opened up about his experiences on the set of John Wick: Chapter 2. The 52-year-old actor said that he preferred to do his own stunts because he did not do a lot of tricks in the film anyway. The actor also said that he loved doing action scenes and wanted to perfect his craft for the audience.

Reeves also discussed the differences between John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 and said that the second installment featured more places, unlike the first film. In the second chapter, Reeves' character, John, even went to Rome.

"The film's director, Chad Stahelski, and all the others involved in it wanted to expand the film's panorama more and were motivating us to do it that way. Chad had the idea of going to Rome, because there is a long history of assassinations, as well as underground things - entities from beyond. That's why we had an Italian team," said Reeves.

For The Continental, it seems that the cast and crew would be limited to the hotel alone since this is the main location in the upcoming series.
