It is time to say goodbye to the God of Thunder. Chris Hemsworth recently revealed that he might never play Thor after Avengers 4.

The Australian actor just wrapped up filming the still-untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, but the actor is already hard at work in his new movie. While doing press tour for 12 Strong, the 34-year-old talked about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Future Is Uncertain

"Contractually, right now — yeah, this is it," he said. "I'm done. I won't be playing the character again."

The actor started playing the role of Thor in his solo superhero movie that came out in 2011. Then, he teamed up with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) in Avengers in 2012. By the time Avengers 4 comes around, he has brandished Mjolnir as the Norse God of Thunder in seven movies over the span of eight years.

Thor and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been a major part of his career and his life that even if the end of his contract comes with a little relief, the actor also feels anxious about what the future might bring next.

"It's sort of a scary thought," he added. "This really seems like this never-ending thing. And now it's potentially finishing."

It is, somehow, a shame that the time is up for everyone's favorite Asgardian hero. The Thor franchise has been considered the weaker aspect of the MCU because of Thor and Thor: The Dark World's poor financial and critical reception.

However, it finally found its footing in the hands of New Zealand-born director Taika Waititi. Thor: Ragnarok was an immediate success and it might be the key that could open doors for more Thor movies.

"We gave cheers... a few times. To Thor 3, but it also was like, 'What could we do with four? We could do this and this.' We were throwing ideas around," he shared. "I feel like we re-invented him. There is a bigger platform now to continue if we want to."

Avengers: Infinity War

Hemsworth also talked about the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. The movie set to come out on May in the United States will feature Marvel's biggest superheroes.

The actor confirmed that the movie has 76 cast members that include Gwyneth Paltrow, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pratt, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin. He added that the movie directed by Anthony and Joe Russo will be one of the biggest in the history of movies.

Moreover, he teased about the exciting first meeting between some of the characters. Fans are most excited to see the God of Thunder who, in Thor: Ragnarok, was traversing the expanse of space to find their new home, meet the Guardians of the Galaxy. He also teased that the two Sherlocks, Cumberbatch and Downey, will meet face-to-face on the big screen as their characters Doctor Strange and Iron Man.

Avengers: Infinity War will land on the big screen on May 4.
