Joanna Newsom is the latest name to be added to the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice," but for now everything is just a well-based rumor. The folk songstress, best known for her rambling (in a good way) harp ballads, was seen on set in Los Angeles along with its stars, Joaquin Phoenix and Katherine Waterston. She was reported to be wearing "hippie garb," which sounds like something her fans might do, but not the musician herself.

Newsom has never starred in a film before, but she has made appearances in the cult comedy show "Portlandia" as well as MGMT's music video for "Kids." And sure, he's not going to get an Oscar nomination anytime soon, but Newsom is currently engaged to "Saturday Night Live" retiree and Lonely Island rapper Andy Samberg. Maybe he can throw her some tips.

"Inherent Vice" is already awash in talent. Besides the actors already named, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Martin Short and Jena Malone are also attached to the project. Anderson's films include "Boogie Nights" and the Best Picture nominees "There Will Be Blood" and 2012's "The Master," which also starred Phoenix.

"Inherent Vice" is about Phoenix's character, a less-than-quality detective in Los Angeles who must investigate the kidnapping of his own ex-girlfriend. Based on some of the stars listed above, we're guessing that the film is a return to some Anderson's more humorous work, versus the dramas that were his last two films. The film is based on a novel by Thomas Pynchon.

Newsom gained attention with her renowned 2006 album "Ys."
