Taylor Swift is defending Hayley Kiyoko from Swifties who attacked the 26-year-old singer after she brought up the "Delicate" singer in a recent interview.

Kiyoko, who released her new album Expectations this year, was speaking about her experience as a gay pop star. She confided that music executives complain that she is making "another music video about girls."

The singer, who has always been open about her sexuality, argued that other pop stars, particularly Swift, get away with singing about their previous romances.

"I literally looked at them and was like, um, yeah ... Taylor Swift sings about men in every single song and video, and no one complains that she's unoriginal," she told Refinery29.

Fans quickly defended Swift and slammed Kiyoko for her comment. However, Swift did not take offense to the interview and even encouraged her followers to applaud the "Girls Like Girls" singer who had the courage to speak the truth.

Women Standing Up For Women

On Tumblr, the 28-year-old responded to a fan explaining why Kiyoko's statement was not an attack on Swift. In fact, the "End Game" singer also experienced sexism in the industry when people criticized her for writing about her exes.

"Exactly," Swift wrote. "We should applaud artists who are brave enough to tell their honest romantic narrative through their art, and the fact is that I've never encountered homophobia and she has. It's her right to call out anyone who has double standards about gay vs straight love interests."

The Grammy-winning singer has taken a similar stance in 2014 when she called out critics who slam her for writing about her ex-boyfriends.

"I think frankly that's a very sexist angle to take," she told a radio show. "No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says that about Bruno Mars. They're all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life, and no one raises the red flag there."

Girl On Top

However, Kiyoko has no time to deal with the social media negativity right now because she is too busy promoting her new music. Expectations came out this week and she will soon be heading on a North American tour.

Here is a video of her looking at her billboard in Times Square.

The pop singer, who received the moniker "Lesbian Jesus" from her fans, is also a part of Panic! At The Disco's "Pray For The Wicked" tour this summer. It will kick off in Minneapolis on July 11.
