It's been a long time since former Disney starlet Hilary Duff released a new single, but now after years of anticipation she has made her big return to music. One day before it was set to be released, Duff's catchy, breezy summer song "Chasing The Sun" has arrived online.

Drifting into the territory of an insanely sugary Jack Johnson, Duff's "Chasing The Sun" starts off wityh the simple, laidback strums of an acoustic guitar, setting up the song with some seriously beachy vibes... and that's even before the drums kick in, which add a notable bouncing beat.

Lyrically, "Chasing The Sun" follows the chilled vibes of the music, with Duff claiming she doesn't need to be living that fast-paced lifestyle... she's just "chasing the sun."

"Why am I in such a hurry / Always getting up too early / So fast everything is blurry, oh oh / It's like the clock is always racing / But my time is not for wasting / Someone else can do the chasing / 'Cause I'm chasing the sun," she sings very kindly and sweetly over the upbeat music.

Though it's been 10 years since Duff was the teenage Lizzie McGuire on our TV screens and she's now a 26-year-old woman, this song comes straight out of the teenage music songwriting storybook. It's generic, happy and really innocent pop. It's not the sort of declarative, bold single that says "I'm back and relevant!" Instead, it sort of falls very much in the middle range of mid-2000s pop.

This is an album track or B-side, not a major comeback single. And, Duff is expecting to move forward in her career, she's going to have to stop looking back and make music with a little more edge.
