Metallica surely knows how to make harmonious noise, not just with their music but with their charitable relief efforts for COVID-19 causes.

On Tuesday, May 5, drummer Lars Ulrich announced the news over a video clip that Metallica will host All Within My Hands "Month of Giving" for May. All Within My Hands Foundation is the charitable institution of the band formed in February 2017. It aims "to assist and enrich the lives of the communities who have supported the band." Metallica, in its quiet ways, has been at the forefront giving back to less fortunate people. For the past two years has encouraged their fans to actively do their share by volunteering or donating to food banks for its "Day of Service."

For this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, Metallica came out with the decision to make the whole month of May their #MonthOfGiving as "inspired by today's #GivingTuesdayNow." From the written announcement that was read by Ulrich behind his set of drums, it stated that due to COVID-19, "a new global date of giving in response to the global need," the band will "spotlight four organizations we're supporting throughout this crisis."

The statement further detailed how the "Month of Giving" plan will be done. One of the four non-profit organizations will be highlighted every Tuesday each week by sharing the work that they do, and will show the fans "how you can chip in to help." The band, for its part, has committed to share sale proceeds from weekly featured merchandise in the Metallica store. They will also go on turning in donations raised through their #MetallicaMondays streaming concerts.

Ulrich further read that the band fully understand the tough situation faced by so many people in the current crisis. The group expressed their appreciation for the "phenomenal support you've given us" as well to All Within My Hands and the "other worthy organization." They invited fans and friends to get to know more about the details of their charitable cause through AllWithinMyHands.org.

First on the list to be spotlighted for "Month of Giving" this first Tuesday of May is Feeding America network, the biggest domestic hunger-relief organization in the U.S. that works with 200 food banks around the nation.

The rest of the non-profitable organizations that will be spotlighted are CrewNation, a global relief fund formed by Live Nation meant to alleviate the needs of live music touring and venue crews. United States Bartenders Guild Foundation, a group that provides help to bar workers and staff in the service industries, will also be covered. Another would be Direct Relief, whose work is focused on equipping health professionals and first responders all over the U.S.

Drummer Ulrich shared his experience in an op-ed for Rolling Stone when Metallica launched its first Day of Service on May 23, 2018. He wrote about how the idea of forming All Within My Hands came about and the importance of why they are asking the fans to give back to their local communities. The band encouraged them "to roll their sleeves... and help out." With the creation of the foundation, Ulrich felt "like we're on the path to something that is really making a difference."
