English pop rock act The 1975 had to cancel their upcoming show at London's Finsbury Park because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, May 6.

A press release available on the band's social media announced that "The 1975 in Finsbury Park" is canceled, saying that they have been "closely monitoring this unprecedented situation" and that cancellation was inevitable. The statement also shared that they are working closely with their ticketing partners and will stay in touch for the refund process.

"For now, keep safe, keep healthy and look after each other," the statement concluded.

The recent announcement follows the update from the band's record label, Dirty Hit, about a month ago.. Last April 12, Dirty Hit CEO Jamie Oborne responded to a fan inquiry asking for "an update on what's happening with finsbury." Oborne said that the news is coming and apologized for the delay, explaining that they had to follow the promoter's lead.

First announced in January this year, The 1975's headlining performance was billed as 'the greenest show Finsbury Park has ever seen." The event was originally scheduled for July 11 and would feature Beabadoobee, Clairo, Charli XCX, Phoebe Bridgers, and Pale Waves.

The event was supposedly intended to be fully-powered by traceable sustainable sourced hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), which boasts a reduced carbon footprint of up to ninety percent compared to conventional fuel sources.

As "the greenest show," the show was also set to be the first outdoor performance in the public park to go entirely paperless. Also, event promoters Festival Republic and nonprofit Trees for Cities has pledged to plant 1,975 trees distributed among the surrounding boroughs of Haringey, Hackney, and Islington.

The 1975 also called upon fans to bring their old band shirts to be reprinted with new designs on the event's sustainable shirt printing.

Their latest work, "Notes on a Conditional Form," is set to be released this coming May 22 after pushing the initial February and April schedules.

Formed back in 2002 in Cheshire, the Manchester-based band is made up of Matthew Healy on vocals, Adam Hann on lead guitars, Ross MacDonald on bass, and George Daniel on drums. The band started playing together as students at Wilmslow High School and were signed with Dirty Hit and Polydor Records after playing at a local gig.

Their 2013 self-titled debut album spawned UK's number one hits "Sex", "Chocolate," and "Robbers." It was followed by "I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It" three years later, with their work both the US and UK album charts. The 1975 announced their upcoming third album, then titled "Music for Cars," during their headlining tour in support of "I Like It When You Sleep." However, the band went into hiatus for the rest of 2017, returning in the following year.

Upon their return to the scene, the band announced that "Music for Cars" had evolved into what became their third and fourth studio albums. In 2018, they released the critically acclaimed "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships" followed by the upcoming "Notes on a Conditional Form."
