You have probably heard of the high-profile changes to the release calendar of production giant Warner Bros. Several production units were forced to move to a later release date due to the pandemic.

The much-awaited sequel Godzilla vs. Kong is no exception to this. Originally scheduled to hit the 2020 Thanksgiving box office, it was moved to May 2021.

With all these changes, what can be expected of the future of Monsterverse in 2021?

Minor Hiccup

Comparing to the revenue collected by its prequel, undoubtedly Godzilla: King of the Monsters performed the weakest.

It collected total revenue of $386.6 million over its cost $170 million comparing to the average 200% profit of its prequel movies. For fans, this is considered the biggest movie in the series because it includes favorites like Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.

What's Next After Godzilla vs. Kong?

Godzilla vs. Kong is the final movie lined up for the MonsterVerse. Three movies were already shown, Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Godzilla vs. Kong is set to complete the list. Will there be any more movies after this fourth sequel?

With the turn out in the box office, it seems that Godzilla vs. Kong first needs to step up to determine the fate of the movie series.

There is also a possibility of putting solo movies for the other monsters. In the latest sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters, some titans were shown bowing to Godzilla towards the end. Monster characters like Mothra and Rodan were also featured. It is good to note that these characters had their classic solo movies back in the '50s and '60s. The possibility of another Kong movie can also take place if Godzilla vs. Kong hits the box office.

Hybrid

Godzilla director Michael Dougherty trolled the fans after posting a statue of Kongzilla. After wondering what a hybrid of the two behemoths would look like, the statue was made by Bowen Designs. Even it did not make it to the screen, the creator made a story behind the statue and dated it back to 1962. Based on the story, a scientist made the hybrid from the pieces of the two monsters that were strewn from their initial fight.

Who Will Win the Fight in the Monsterverse?

According to Adam Wingard, who is now the director of Godzilla vs. Kong, in the 1962 movie, there is a feeling of a 'little letdown,' He spilled that he wants there to be a victor. Rather than having a tie and appeasing fans of Godzilla and Kong, the movie would like to leave it to its audiences. Fans would need to speculate whether the entire story will dwell around the fight of the two monsters or another villain will reveal itself.

For now, what is clear is the entire series lies within Godzilla vs. Kong.
