Gabe Serbian, The Locust drummer, passed away at 44 years old yesterday, the band confirms.

The Locust announced the tragic news on their social media pages following the death of their longtime drummer.

"It's with heavy hearts that we have to share the passing of Gabe Serbian on April 30, 2022. This world will miss Gabe as a friend, family member, musician, and artist. He will continue to live on in so many ways and through everyone he has connected with during his time with us," the band wrote along with a photo of Serbian.

Serbian's death comes as a surprise for many, especially since the drummer was supposed to be celebrating his 45th birthday yesterday, May. 1, 2022.

As of this writing, Gabe Serbian's cause of death has not yet been revealed to the public. Additional details on his death are expected to emerge in the coming days or weeks.

Asking fans for additional privacy for Serbian's family this time, The Locust also publicly shared their late drummer's memorial fund. Donations gathered on the Go Fund Me page will go straight to the survivors of Gabe Serbian.

Who is Gabe Serbian?

Born Gabriel Serbian on May 1, 1977, Gabe came through as a drummer and guitarist in the music industry. Not only was he one of the pioneering members of The Locust, but Gabe Serbian was also one of the founding members and earliest guitarist for vegan death metallers Cattle Decapitation.

Joining the San Diego, California-based hardcore punk band in 1998, Gabe initially helmed the guitars before taking over the drums in 2001.

Gabe was part of three studio albums of The Locust. This includes the self-titled one in 1998, "Plague Soundscape" in 2003, and "New Erections" in 2007.

Aside from Cattle Decapitation and The Locust, Gabe Serbian was also part of other prominent bands, including Holy Molar and Dead Cross. He also became a part of the hardcore/punk rock supergroup Head Wound City.

Performing alongside German electronic musician Alec Empire, Nic Endo, Carlie Clouser, Merzbow, Le Butcherettes, Rats Eyes, Wet Lungs, and the likes, Serbian also played drums for Miami IDM/breakcore musician Otto von Schirach on his then European tour.
