Age, Bio

Gahan was born as David Callcott in Epping, Essex, England in 1962 under the name Dave Gahan. His mother, Sylvia, was a London bus conductress, and his father, Len, was a Malaysian-Indian bus driver.

His idol is Mick Jagger. He once revealed that he  frequently danced and imitated individuals on Top of the Pops. He added hat Bowie was a major influence, but at age 14, he was more namored with Dave Vanian of the Damned and his entire stage act.

The moment he reached his teenage years, he was already very familiarized with all the glam music on Top of the Pops and subsequently sampled artists such as James Brown, Prince, and Elvis.

Regrets? None

He added that performing did not come naturally to him. When he began performing, he shared that he was terrified to the point of paralysis. After holding onto the microphone, his knuckles would remain clinched. Then he eventually discovered that if he moved about, he felt less anxious. It was this discovery that changed everything for him.

"I kept moving and gradually, within all the stuff I was nicking, I found something of my own," he shared.

He was also once asked whether he regretted something in his life. He said it's impossible because he's not the type to look back.

"Regret is a weird word. I don't look back on my life like that any more, or use excuses for choices I made [Gahan was technically dead for two minutes following a heroin overdose in 1996]. Good or bad, they have consequences, but I'm leading a pretty blessed life here [in New York]. I just enjoy what I'm doing as much as I can," he shared.
