Following a shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Richard Marx's former hometown of Highland Park, Illinois, he had harsh words for the National Rifle Association. Marx is known for his sweet 1980s pop songs.

"F- you @NRA," the "Right Here Waiting" singer tweeted at the NRA Monday. "Every single one of you. F- you. Ignorant, soulless accomplices to the murders of countless men, women and children."

Marx's Independence Day rant followed the most recent mass shooting in the United States, which left at least six people dead and 24 others injured in the affluent suburb where he was raised. His statement was in reaction to the NRA's tweet praising the United States as a nation "because of heroic souls with guns" who struggle for freedom.

"I grew up in Highland Park," Marx tweeted. "I'm actively reaching out to check on the welfare of people I still know there."

The 58-year-old hitmaker stated that he is usually "heartbroken" when he hears about mass shootings, but this one hit particularly near to home, leaving him "especially" upset. Marx stated that he is "especially enraged by the senselessness" of this massacre, which had no apparent cause.

The NRA was heavily criticized in late May when it sponsored a rally in the Lone Star state only days after a teen gunman killed 19 pupils and two teachers at a school in Uvalde, Texas.

At this ceremony, prominent conservatives including former President Donald Trump and Texas Senator Ted Cruz were featured speakers. Both men believed that safer school doors and more rigorous mental health screenings would save lives.

The shooter responsible for Monday's incident in Illinois remains at large.

Marx labeled "garbage" "the kind of sick, perverted, dumb psychopath who encourages domestic terrorism in this nation" in his series of tweets on Monday.

As additional information emerge about the shooting, many other famous personalities, such as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actor Rachel Brosnahan, who was up in the area, are speaking out about the tragic tragedy.

Meanwhile, Bears player Darrynton Evans tweeted his prayers for the Highland Park community. Simply sad, he wrote in part. People can no longer enjoy the Fourth of July parade, he surmised.
