More than a year after the George Zimmerman trial verdict, another unarmed teen was shot dead at the hands of police in Ferguson, Missouri.

According to NewsOne, Michael "Mike Mike" Brown, a 2014 graduate of Normandy High School, was fatally shot in a St. Louis-area neighborhood Saturday (Aug. 9) afternoon.

St. Louis County Police spokesman Brian Schellman says shots were heard at the scene and "a couple hundred people" came out of nearby apartment buildings after a Ferguson officer shot the male.

During a press conference Sunday (Aug. 10), St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said an altercation with police prompted the shooting.

The altercation reportedly involved the officer and two other people.

CBS reports one person allegedly pushed the officer back into a patrol car and assaulted the officer.

He says there was a struggle over the officer's weapon and one shot was fired in the car. The officer then got out of his vehicle and shot at "a subject." He says the man suffered more than a couple gunshots, but "not many more than that."

Ferguson resident La'Toya Cash says Brown was shot 10 times by Ferguson Police. The victim's friend, Dorian Johnson, says he was walking with Brown when an officer confronted them and drew his weapon.

"He (the officer) shot again and once my friend felt that shot, he turned around and put his hands in the air," Johnson said. "He started to get down and the officer still approached with his weapon drawn and fired several more shots."

According to KMOV, Brown was unarmed and had his hands in the air when he was shot multiple times. Reports say he was shot once by the officer and then an additional nine times as he lie in the street.

The victim was reportedly visiting his grandmother while in the area.

"He was a good kid. He didn't live around here," Desuirea Harris, grandmother of the victim, said. "He came to visit me and they did that to him for no reason."

It has also been reported that the officer who shot Brown has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. Brown was scheduled to begin classes at Vatterott College on Monday.
