Lauren Jauregui had nothing but nice things to sing about her ex-beau Ty Dolla $ign in her newly released single, "Always Love."

The 26-year-old singer-songwriter reportedly dated the 40-year-old singer for two years and broke up in 2019.

According to reports, Jauregui wrote "Always Love" shortly after the split while she was vacationing in Bali and London.

In her interview with Rolling Stone, she explained that the song helped her get through the breakup, "I was still in the process of grieving this relationship that had just ended. I was still in the beginning stages but what kept coming up for me was how much love I still had. believe magic just happened... It came from a very honest place."

She also shared that after she completed the lyrics of the song, she sent it over to her ex.

"I, still to this day, have a lot of love and respect for him and what we had together."

"We're both artists, and we both express ourselves through our music really deeply. But that was then. Now, it's just art," she concluded.

Long Wait

Fans might wonder why it took the former Fifth Harmony member to drop the song if she wrote it so long ago.

According to reports, she initially wanted to drop it as soon as possible, but some hiccups came in the way-she wanted to handle her career independently and left her label Columbia Records the previous year.

However, despite the song being over three years old to date, she it still resonates with her.

"[...] If the song can transcend the moment and still communicate to me and other people three years of it was written, and after I'm completely healed and not in that space anymore, I think that's a testament to it needing to go out into the world," she said.

She also noted that releasing "Always Love" is important for the same reason every song is, which is to tell her story in her words and way: "It is an honest expression of a moment that allowed me to heal."

Along that thought is her hope that the song will also heal the person listening to it who might just relate a little too much to it.

Music Video

The melancholy music video follows Jauregui in a house where she stayed in with her "previous lover."

It goes back and forth between her present and past self, with some clips of her walking alone in the house, while in other clips she was with her lover.

It follows the theme of the ballad which sounds a bit sad, but it put her previous lover in a positive light.

"The details are the most beautiful and vital part of the storytelling in this video. I just wanted to create something that captured the vulnerability of longing," she said.

"I wanted it to be clear I was alone but to have an illusion to my lover as if they were a ghost of my memory."
