Metallica has one reason why it allowed "Stranger Things" to use its music, particularly its hit song, "Master of Puppets."

The "Stranger Things" Season 4 finale led Metallica's "Master of Puppets" to be on the top songs of several charts again. The hit Netflix series featured it during a scene when metalhead and club leader of Dungeons and Dragons Hellfire, Eddie Munson, played the song on his guitar to save his friends from Upside Down creatures.

Upon playing the song, Demobats immediately flew away.

Amid the continuous success of the track, Metallica's Lars Ulrich revealed what made the band approve of its usage.

Speaking with Howard Stern during a Monday interview, Ulrich said Metallica's collaboration with "Stranger Things" became game-changing. He also shared how he and his bandmates never wanted their songs to be part of TV series and films.

But years ago, the used-to-be "no guys" had a change of heart.

"We did a 180. We just said, 'You know what? This is stupid. Why are we hanging onto these [songs] like they're so important, like they're the crown jewels?' We started saying yes to everything. Let's share our music with the world," he went on.

Ulrich expressed how unbelievable it was for them to see the song become a phenomenon. Moreover, the fact that the band witnessed how its songs made an impact 40 years later left the members feeling psyched to be part of that history.

Metallica Gains Milestones With "Master of Puppets"

On Jul. 2, 1986, Metallica released the album with one single of the same name, "Master of Puppets." James Hetfield revealed that the song's lyrics explore how drugs can control someone and take over what they are saying and doing.

Before it came back on the charts because of "Stranger Things," critics and news outlets already regarded it as one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever. It also ranked No. 22 on Q magazine's 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks list in 2005. Meanwhile, Martin Popoff noted in his book that the song is at No. 2 on The Top 500 Heavy Metal Songs of All Time.

After the release of the "Stranger Things" episode, it immediately ranked 14th on Spotify's global chart and 7th on its UK and US charts. It also headed back onto the Billboard Hot 100 and scored a spot on iTunes daily chart.

Per Billboard, "Master of Puppets" audio streams in the US jumped to 400 percent - from 224,000 on June 30 to 1.11 million streams.
