Christine McVie passed away on Wednesday, November 30, after a brief illness.

According to a Facebook post, the Fleetwood Mac singer, songwriter, and keyboardist died "peacefully" in a hospital at the age of 79.

Christine was also honored by Fleetwood Mac and other artists, who described her as a "one-of-a-kind and exceptional" talent.

The Lancashire, England native first joined the band in 1970 and left twice. She later returned for the final time in 2014.

They remained friends and continued to work closely together with the band until her divorce from the band's bass guitarist John McVie in 1976.

Christine, on the other hand, maintained that their love story would not have ended if she had never joined the band.

How Christine McVie Met John McVie

Before meeting John, Christine was a member of the band Chicken Shack. Their band used to frequently perform with Fleetwood Mac, which is how she met him. Christine quit her band a year later and joined Fleetwood Mac the year after they married in 1968.

Christine and John McVie split while on tour, which the former said was "irresponsible."

In a 1997 interview with Rolling Stone, she claimed that she had to break up with her husband in the middle of the tour for her own sanity.

"It was either that or me ending up in a lunatic asylum."

Did Christine McVie Regret Joining Fleetwood Mac?

Christine McVie said to Rolling Stone in 1997 that their marriage may have been preserved if they hadn't been under professional pressure.

The late musician admitted, "I dare say if I hadn't joined Fleetwood Mac. We might still be together. I just think it's impossible to work in the band with your spouse."

She claimed that there was a lot of tension living together 24 hours a day, on the road, and that they were all already in a stressful situation.

The additional negative of drinking too much booze on the road also led to their marriage's demise.

Christine McVie recalled, "We just reached a point where we couldn't be in the same room together."

"We'd probably spent more time with one another than most couples who have lived together for twenty-five years. We had no individuality, no separation."

Stevie Nicks Knows Something

Meanwhile, Stevie Nicks discussed her bandmates' divorce, and her words shed some light on why Christine McVie wanted to divorce John in the middle of their tour.

She revealed," John drinks too much. And that's why Chris and John aren't together. Period."

"And John knows that he needs to quit, but you know none of us are going to go over there and nail him to the wall."
