Amy Winehouse's biopic has been announced last year and recent photos of the actress portraying the singer, Marisa Abela, are making rounds online. However, despite the movie in the early process of filming, it already amassed negative comments from fans; what happened?

It all began when Instagram pop culture/fashion blog, Diet Prada, took to the social media platform to share photos of the actress in her outfit for the movie.

"Spotted: Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse filming for Razzie Award-nominated director Sam Taylor-Johnson's Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black. Thoughts??" the account wrote.

Immediately after posting the two photos, many fans took to the comment section express their dismay over the costume and the styling of Abela's outfits.

"Nahhhhhhh This is giving Halloween costume in NJ. Not movie magic stills," one wrote.

"This is not a great start. Can we please the deceased alone? More often than not, these biopics are a mess and exploitative," another fan wrote.

"Fire the hair and makeup team immediately! I was a better Amy Winehouse for Halloween in 2008," one expressed.

Aside from the comments about her outfit, many fans also pointed out that they won't support the film at all because they believe it would feature the singer's suffering when she was still alive and that people should "let her rest."

As of this writing, neither Marisa Abela nor Sam Taylor-Johnson has publicly commented on the backlash.

Who Is Marisa Abela?

Marisa Abela was reportedly the "top choice" for the upcoming biopic, which will showcase the Grammy Award-winning singer's "vibrant years living in London in the early aughts and her intense journey to fame."

Director Taylor-Johnson shared official photos from the movie on Instagram and many fans are curious who the actress is.

The rising star was born in Brighton, East Sussex on December 7, 1996. She has many similarities with Winehouse as both of them are Jewish and were born in England.

In an interview, Abela noted that her father is a Maltese Arab while her mom is from a family of Polish Jewish refugees.

The actress is clearly heading to the path of performing arts as she received a BA in Acting degree at one of the most renowned acting schools in the United Kingdom, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, which had famous alumni like Cynthia Erivo, Tom Hiddleston, and many more.
