Lisa Marie Presley might not have had a career as successful as her father's, but she made sure that she would forge her own path, despite being brought up like royalty.

Born as the only child of the late King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie's birth was highly publicized, and she was treated like a princess, and her death was just as highly publicized.

She was born on Feb. 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee and the first few years of her life were at the Presleys' impressive Graceland estate-the very same one she later inherited after the death of her father.

Despite being born to one of the most popular couples in Hollywood during that time, Lisa Marie kept much to herself.

According to CNN, she even described herself to be "kind of a loner, a melancholy and strange child."

"I had a real self-destructive mode for a while," she shared. "I never really fit into school. I didn't really have any direction."

It was not until she grew up did she gain perspective and decided which direction she wanted to pursue in her life.

Music Career

Lisa Marie was 35 when she finally decided to pursue a music career. She released her debut studio album "To Whom It May Concern" in 2003.

"If I had been thinking about that, worrying about that, which I kind of had for a long time I would have never done what was sort of innately in my heart, in my soul," she explained why it took her so long to release music.

"So I had to stop being worried about that, it was too intimidating otherwise."

While the connections, contacts, and resources were naturally passed down to her thanks to her powerful lineage, Lisa Marie did not take any of it for granted.

"I would never take back any part of who I am or where I came from. I would never want to be part of anything else."

"I'm honored and proud of my family and my dad," she said in an interview.

According to reports, Lisa Marie had an estimated net worth of $16 million around the time she died; this will be passed down to her daughters, as well as Graceland.

According to reports, prior to her death, Lisa Marie pondered what she wanted to happen once she died.

A close friend of Lisa Marie revealed her plans in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, "There was no question she wanted to be buried at Graceland [...]"

"The one thing she said was, 'Just don't make it sad,'" he continued. "She wants it to be a celebration, and that's what it's gonna be."
