Elton John has been on his farewell tour since 2018 and it appears that his hard work paid off as his final concerts broke a new record after earning millions of dollars; how much di he earn in total?

According to Billboard, the British singer kicked off the "Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour" in September of 2018 and began a record-breaking run that is not yet done up to this day.

The long-running tour has now reportedly grossed a whopping $817.9 million over the span of 278 shows. He is now the titleholder of the highest grossing concert of all time in Billboard Boxscore history.

The previous record-holder was Ed Sheeran with his "Divide Tour" that grossed $776.4 million. He ended his series of concerts in 2019 with over 258 shows.

At the time, he beat U2's "The 360 Tour" that earned just a few millions shorter than Sheeran with $736.4 million. Both tours played in several continents and mostly in stadiums.

On the other hand, John spent the first three years and the first few months of 2022 in arenas before upgrading to stadiums. He already performed in North America thrice and it earned $226.2 million over 116 shows.

Even though the entirety of his tour amassed the biggest numbers when it comes to gross earnings, the legendary singer isn't the record-holder for ticket sales as he only sold 5.3 million tickets, compared to Ed Sheeran with 8.9 million.

In the span of his career, including his successful "Ice and Fire Tour" in 1986, co-headlining concerts with James Taylor, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, and Billy Joel, his total earnings are now reportedly $1.863 billion per Billboard's Boxscore.

The recent report comes a few months after the "Your Song" hitmaker announced that he would be extending his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour in 2023.

According to Retropop Magazine, the musician is has wrapped up his Australia and New Zealand leg. In a previous statement about his shows down under, John said, "In 2020 I promised that when I came back to finish my interrupted farewell, I'd perform some encore shows."
