Why Is Joshua Bassett Trending? Kids Choice Awards Speech Turned Into 'Sermon' Egged By Netizens

Joshua Bassett has been trending in the past few weeks because of his rather controversial statements.

Very recently, Bassett is yet again taking the heat of his fans and many netizens because of his 2023 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards speech last Mar. 5, 2023.

Bassett won Favorite Male TV Star for his performance in "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series."

After accepting the award, Bassett took the time to share a few words with the kids inside the venue at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

After thanking his supporters and the cast and crew of his series, he said this: "I want to say something. There are a lot of people here who are burdened, broken-hearted, and have been beaten down by life."

His message seemed to have put the cheering crowd to a halt.

"I'm here to tell you--- for those of you who've lost hope, there's a very real God who loves you more than you will ever possibly know," he continued. "His promise is peace and my testimony is my healing. Remember: Forgive quickly, love freely and walk courageously. Love always wins in the end."

While speaking about one's faith is completely normal, some netizens have expressed frustration and even anger for preaching to a room full of impressionable kids.

"Joshua Bassett proselytizing from the Kid's Choice Awards stage is really bothering me. Do it on your social media, whatever. But on a live tv awards show catering to a young, impressionable crowd? Please don't," someone shared.

"not joshua bassett trying to recruit ppl for church at kids choice awards. lmao can we stop inviting him to awards if he's gonna pull this?" another suggested.

"imagine being a kid at the kids choice awards and joshua bassett just gets up and starts talking about how you're burdened and need jesus christ.. dude what the fuck lmao," a user posted.

Bassett, who publicly came out as part of the LGBTQIA community last year, has surprised many of his fans after turning in a new leaf and started preaching on his social media accounts and even at his concert performances.

He also received flak last month after a video of him getting baptized at Bethel Church went viral. Bethel Church is notoriously known to be a church with strengthened Anti-LGBTQ policies and conversion therapies.
