Dave Mustaine can no longer sing the way he used to.

Mustaine has been one of the best thrash vocalists in the world. As the frontman of Megadeth, he also gave fans an impression with his vocals - but he revealed he is no longer the same as before.

During an interview with Heavy Magazine, the interviewer asked the rocker whether he has something he could do when he was younger that he could not do anymore.

Amid his health issues, Mustaine said he remains capable of doing anything, except that he could no longer hit the notes he used to hit. Per the singer, the metal plate in his neck became a major hindrance in keeping his original vocals.

"I think that probably the only thing I have any difficulty doing is getting up in a certain pitch now that I've had my neck operated on and had a metal plate put into my spine because of the damage that happened to my neck," he said. "It's a wonder, based on everything that's happened, the guy upstairs is even letting me continue to do what I love."

Despite that, Mustaine assured he would never be a victim and play victim due to his struggles and issues. He added that he truly feels great now that he does not think there is something he cannot do.

In the end, he left a heartfelt message saying that love can make something do some strange things.

Dave Mustaine's Health Issues Explored

Mustaine went through a lot of health struggles in the past years.

As for the metal plate in his neck, the Megadeth frontman underwent surgery for stenosis in September 2011. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the condition happens when a person's spinal canal in the lower part of the back narrows. In more severe cases, it can cause a person to experience issues in controlling their bowel and bladder.

Doctors often blame cases of spinal stenosis among rock musicians due to their years of headbanging.

There is no cure for the condition, but it can be managed through treatments and by maintaining a healthy lower back.

To avoid affecting Mustaine's plate, the band started tuning lower so the frontman would not need to hit the high notes.

Aside from the issue, Mustaine was also diagnosed with throat cancer in May 2019. Although he has since been in remission, the medication reportedly caused numbness in his left arm.
