Now that Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik are openly dating, many are wondering whether the "Yummy" singer's comment alleging that Gomez cheated on him with the former One Direction star might hold water.
The comment in question dates back to 2016-when Gomez and Bieber were going back and forth on Instagram, shading each other after the "Baby" singer debuted his romance with Sofia Richie just a few weeks after his split with the Rare Beauty owner.
Gomez's fans came after Bieber in his comments section, and the "Rare" singer defended her fans by commenting: If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only. Don't be mad at your fans. They love you. They were there for you before anyone."
Bieber responded: "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All Love."
"I'm not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope you all can be kind to my friends and each other. And yes I love my beliebers."

However, the drama did not end there. Gomez came back with her comment: "Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times, are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no wonder fans are mad. Sad. All Love."
It was Bieber's reply that caught everybody's attention: "I cheated? Oh, I forgot about you and Zayn."
Even after several years, fans have been wondering if there might have been more to it than just a simple shady comment.

According to reports, before linking up, Gomez and Malik have expressed their interest in each other over the years.
A source revealed that the British singer likes the "Only Murders in the Building" star ever since, "Zayn has known Selena for years, and he's definitely into her."
"He's always admired her and thinks she's an incredible person, inside and out," they added. "However, Zayn would love to continue to see Selena and see where things go."
Gomez was spotted on a date with the singer a few weeks after she sparked dating rumors with another artist: Andrew Taggart of the Chainsmokers.
It seems like they're taking it slow, despite their undeniable chemistry, Malik is "focusing on himself" and "isn't putting any pressure on the situation."
