Nora Forster, the wife of former Sex Pistol member John Lydon, has died. She was 80.

Lydon's official Twitter account released a statement confirming Forster's death. The same post included a sweet photo of the husband and wife taken at one of the events they attended.

Nora Forster's Cause of Death: Did John Lydon's Wife Suffer Any Health Issues?

According to the post on Thursday, Forster passed away following her long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

"Nora had been living with Alzheimer's for several years. In which time John had become her full-time carer," part of the statement read. "Please respect John's grief and allow him space."

Lydon and Forster married in 1979, four years after they met at Vivienne Westwood's famed punk shop, Sex. In one of the musician's autobiographies, he recounted how Forster "shone, glowed" when he saw her for the first time.

She was diagnosed with the dreaded illness in 2018.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website states that Alzheimer's disease, the most common type of dementia, is a progressive condition that initially causes mild memory loss in a person. People diagnosed with the disease soon experience difficulty in carrying on a conversation and even responding to the environment due to the affected speech and control thought.

Lydon dedicated himself to his wife of nearly five decades and became her full-time caretaker, even while he was on tour with Public Image Ltd.

John Lydon Spoke About Wife's Health Issues Before Death

Prior to Forster's passing, Lydon had been open about his life with her and her struggles.

In 2021, he told The Sunday Times that he already knew her condition would deteriorate into something "more terrible" but reportedly started facing whatever it would be with dignity.

"I mean, it would be easy enough to run away and say, 'Oh, it's not my responsibility; things aren't the same.' Bollocks to that. I'm John," he said. "When I make a commitment it's forever and I stand by that and I'm very proud to do the best I can for her. We've been together now 45 years; we're not going to change anything."

Lydon also mentioned how much he felt bad to leave his wife to attempt to win and represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. He told the publication that his wife's condition also shaped him into the person he had become.
