The MTV Video Music Awards have been notoriously interesting for fashion, with both music and entertainment's biggest stars taking huge risks on the red carpet. Sometimes, they'll pay off, with new trends emerging into the world... but more often, big stars fall.
Tonight (Aug. 24), most of the fashion at the VMAs was full of pure flop. From Taylor Swift's too short gold letter print romper to Ariana Grande's too sexy Moschino leather dress and boots, the outfits this year were massive misfires...

Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande already has a confusing image... is she the sweet and funny Cat Valentine from Sam & Cat or is she a rising sex icon and pop star, a la the music video for "Break Free." We're more likely to believe the former, so her outfit at the VMAs was highly confusing. An almost homage to bondage, Grande looked uncharacteristically mature and truly failed to be any sort of sexy.

Charli XCX
From the looks of this outfit, you would've thought XCX was the singer behind "Roar," not Katy Perry... her one piece, tiger striped romper was too wild in all the wrong ways... like, it fit fine and everything, but it was such an offensive shade of yellow... someone needs to call in a real tiger to tear that thing up,

Taylor Swift
We're pretty sure T. Swift got her VMAs outfit in the discount section at Marshall's... it looks just that cheap. Normally the exact definition of class, the "Shake it Off" singer just did not exude anything near that. The blue was tacky, the gold letters looked like something of a Mad Dog 20/20 bottle and her hair did not match the vibes. This is a rare misfire for Swift.

Jessie J's new hit "Bang Bang" may nearing the top of the charts, but she was a real miss with her outfit for the VMAs. Her ill-fitting dress wasn't quite yellow... or green... or nude... it was just a gross mix of all three.
