Fans of the competition have been wondering about whether ABBA may make an appearance to honor the 50th anniversary of the group's game-changing victory since Eurovision is scheduled to return to Sweden next year.

The competition will return to Scandinavia for the seventh time in 2024 following Loreen's historic victory there, but those hoping to see the Dancing Queens reunited might want to brace themselves for some disappointment

Musician Benny Andersson responded simply when asked by BBC Newsnight if fans may anticipate seeing ABBA perform live in their native Sweden next year and he said he does not want to. He added that the others won't if he does not want them to. For all four of them a "no" means a "no" if someone says it, he further said.

He did not explain why but stated firmly that they can celebrate 50 years of Abba without them being on stage.

In addition to dedicating a portion of their current Voyage concert experience in London to their 1974 victory for Waterloo, Björn also made a video message for Eurovision fans for a special that will replace the normal performance in 2020. He said he found it difficult to believe as well when he viewed that film from the Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton, 1974.

The ESC is still one of the most truly joyful occasions of the TV year, though it is a heck of a launch pad.

With the successes "Dancing Queen" and "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" in the 1970s, the Swedish ensemble ABBA gained worldwide recognition.

Before the band's breakup in 1982, Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad experienced immense success.

In 2016, ABBA made intentions to reconvene as digital avatars for a live "entertainment experience."

The group disclosed that they had also made new music two years later.

The choice to move on with the thrilling ABBA avatar tour project had an unforeseen outcome, they said in a joint statement. After around 35 years, the four of them thought it could be enjoyable to work together once more and enter the recording studio.

Additionally, it seemed as though they had just returned from a brief vacation and that time had stopped. In November 2021, the quartet released Voyage, their ninth and last studio album. And in May of that year, all four ABBA members were present at the London debut of their online concert series.
