Fans were thrilled after SummerStage held a free concert for all. However, during Juanes' set, the show was abruptly stopped after the singer just performed two songs; what happened?

According to People Magazine, the singer performed at the SummerStage in Central Park, New York City. His set was a part of the Latin Alternative Music Conference summer series.

Since the music event was free for those who wanted to attend, the show amassed big crowds to the point that the venue could no longer hold concertgoers.

At that point, the production had no choice but to halt the Colombian singer's performance even if he just performed two songs. They did it for safety purposes.

SummerStage NYC Speaks Out

After the cancellation, organizers of SummerStage issued a statement on their official Facebook account to share more details about what happened.

They noted that Juanes' show amassed 5000 concertgoers inside and an additional of 12,000 outside the gates.

"During the performance of his second song, with continued crowds at the gates and out of an abundance of caution, the show was halted and fans were asked to leave the venue," they added.

Later in the post, the Executive Director at City Parks Foundation, Heather Lubov, noted that this was the first time in 30 years that SummerStage was required to stop a concert that is not related to bad weather.

She added that all organizations involved as well as Juanes agreed that the fans' safety should be the number one priority that's why they decided to halt the show.

Juanes Also Shares His Thoughts About Overcrowding During Set

According to Billboard, Juanes was only able to perform two tracks, "Gris" and "Mala Gente." After finishing his second song, he addressed the crowd to tell them that they need to be calm.

He added that if the attendees were not calm, they have no choice but to stop the concert.

"Many people were left outside without being able to enter. We want to continue with the show. It's possible, right?" he added.

In a statement to Billboard Español, Juanes expressed his true feelings over the incident, saying he was sad because he was "very eager to play."

Even though the concert didn't push through, the Colombian superstar, who wore an all-black outfit for his performance, still took his time to interact and take photos with his waiting fans.
