Earlier this month, The 1975 got banned in Malaysia after calling out the country's homophobic culture and laws, shortly before its vocalist Matty Healy kissed his male bandmate on stage.

Now, Muse, who performed in the country on Jul. 29, 2023, touted them in a significant song choice and change.

Muse Changed 'Resistance' Lyrics in Malaysia

In an Instagram post that Muse drummer Dominic Howard shared recently, he confirmed the reported lyric change.

"What a tour So much thanks and gratitude goes out to everyone that came to see us this summer It's been epic," he wrote. "Side note: We chose to play Resistance over WAFF in Malaysia. A more poignant message given the circumstances."

According to Variety, instead of playing "We Are Fu** Fuck*d," the band chose to play "Resistance."

The said change was hinted at and suggested in their interview with Rojak Daily with Adam Ashraf from Hello Universe.

In comparison, here are the lyrics for "We Are Fuck*ing Fuck*d": "Another world war / Wildfires and earthquakes I foresaw / A life in crisis / A deadly virus / Tsunamis of hate are gonna find us."

To protest against the country's rather discriminatory laws and culture, Muse chose "Resistance" instead, which contains these lyrics: "Love is our resistance / They'll keep us apart, and they won't stop breaking us down" and "Kill your prayers for love and peace / You'll wake the Thought Police."

As of this writing, Muse has not yet addressed the issue and the song change except for Howard.

The 1975 Banned In Malaysia

The 1975's Matty Healy shocked many with his rather bold pronouncement and move on the band's performance at the Good Vibes Festival earlier this month.

"I made a mistake. When we were booking shows, I wasn't looking into it. I don't see the fuck*ing point... of inviting the 1975 to a country and then telling us who we can have sex with," he said. "I'm sorry if that offends you, and you're religious... but your government are a bunch of fucking r--. I don't care anymore. If you push, I'm gonna push back. I'm not in the fucking mood."

As Healy threw a fit on stage blasting Malaysia's Anti-LGBTQ laws, The 1975 bassist Ross MacDonald approached Healy and the two kissed in front of everyone.
