Selena Gomez is one of the biggest stars that Disney has ever produced alongside Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.

One would think that when Selena Gomez was at the point that she ran Disney with "Wizards of Waverly Place," everything to her liking would all fall into place. Turns out, it doesn't as she has to fight for one of her now most iconic songs.

Selena Gomez 'Who Says' Was Supposed To Be For Another Artist

Speaking to Twilio's SIGNAL conference recently, Selena Gomez recalled that her song "Who Says," wasn't actually supposed to be hers, but for another artist. (via Elle Magazine)

At the time when Gomez was still with Disney, they informed her that they had to give the song to another artist.

"And I cried-I remember, I was with my mom-because I loved the song so much. I basically said to my label, 'I feel like my fans are young and they need it.' That's all I kept saying because I was 16 at the time. I was like, 'I think my fans really need it; tell [them] my fans really need the song.' And so maybe it just didn't work out with the other artist, but that [getting "Who Says"] was a gift to me that I did not know I needed," she remembered.

"Who Says" was sung by Gomez and her band The Scene in 2011. It reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs. To date, it has since been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In the same year, it won the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Music: Single.

Selena Gomez and 'Who Says'

Gomez confessed to Billboard that she loves "Who Says."

"It has carried with me through my whole career, and I fought for it. So to be honest, I, to this day, need to hear it. Not by me. Like I don't want to hear myself sing it. I'm just saying the message it will last and last because it's the truth. It's such a special song."

She also added that it was probably her favorite song that she had recorded. The song has since been an anthem, primarily for those who are being bullied.

"It went platinum so it's my second song ever that's platinum. I was really excited, I was in the car when I found out promoting the third album. It gave me a big boost," she further recalled.

True enough, we doubt that the song would slap if it weren't sung by Selena Gomez in the first place!
