Josh Gad was rushed to the hospital for treatment causing him to miss a performance of "Gutenberg! The Musical!" on Broadway last Saturday afternoon.

Thankfully, his standby was ready to take over for the remaining performances until he could return.

Josh Gad Health Update

According to Billboard, Josh Gad had to skip a performance of "Gutenberg! The Musical!" last Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, afternoon because of a medical emergency.

Doctors revealed that the medical emergency "needed to be addressed immediately."

"Not the news I'd like to share, but life happens. Unfortunately, I will not be at this afternoon's performance of Gutenberg. I'm dealing with a medical emergency that despite telling my doctors I wanted to wait till Monday to address, they thought needed to be addressed immediately," the "Beauty and The Beast" actor said in an Instagram video.

Russell Daniels took on the role of Gad on the Saturday shows,

"I would rather be spending my afternoon with all of you than at a hospital. I hope that this gets resolved pretty quickly and I'll be back on stage with my buddy Rannells as soon as possible," he went on to say.

In a follow-up post, Gad shared the "good news."

"Thanks to the phenomenal team at Lenox Hill, I was able to be diagnosed and treated in record time for some lower abdominal issues I've been having. With their blessing, I will be back in the show this evening," he clarified.

As of this writing, it's not known yet whether Gad was able to return for the said evening show.

Directed by Alex Timbers and written by Scott Brown and Anthony King, the musical highlights the life of nursing home workers Bud and Doug, played by Gad and Rannels, as they try to mount their own musical on Broadway.

The two previously made a huge success in their partnership on "The Book of Mormon." The show amassed nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album at the time.

The show is set to open on Oct. 12, which makes Gad's hospitalization a huge deal, since it's only a few days before opening night.
