Dionne Warwick is one of music's biggest pillars. Dubbed as the Queen of R&B Soul, Warwick has decades of experience and has met hundreds of other talented artists.

In 2023, Doja Cat's "Paint The Town Red" successfully weaves nostalgia in the form of a rap song as Warwick's 1964 hit song "Walk On By."

Dionne Warwick Didn't Know Who Doja Cat Is

Speaking to Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Warwick revealed that when someone named Doja Cat sampled her song "Wak On By," she was surprised as she didn't know who she was.

"I didn't know it had been recorded by her," she told Clarkson. "My granddaughter called me and says, 'Grammy, do you know you're on a record with Doja Cat?' I said, 'Doja who?'"

According to Warwick, Doja Cat did not need her permission to sample the said song.

"Well, apparently, it's a major hit for her," Warwick speculated about the song.

"Paint The Town Red" has been nominated at the 2024 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Solo Performance, with Clarkson confirming that it was indeed a hit.

"I'm thrilled," Warwick said. "I hope 'Walk on By' is as good for her as it has been for me. They're great songs, and finally [young people] being exposed to some good music."

In September 2023, Doja Cat's "Paint The Town Red" became her first-ever solo hit to have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The first one was their Guiness Book of World record-setting remix of "Say So" with Nicki Minaj. (via Billboard)

Meanwhile, in 1964, "Walk On By" was also a major success as it reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
