Dave Evans reflected on the death of Bon Scott in 1980.

AC/DC changed its vocalist from Evans to Scott after the original singer was ousted after the first gig. The then-new vocalist performed with the group for its first six albums before his death six years later; he was only 33.

Why Bon Scott's Death Was Not Surprising, According to Dave Evans

Speaking with Brazil's "Guarda Volume" podcast, Evans opened up about Scott's death and the time he was removed from the band.

According to the original singer, the late crooner who replaced him "went through a lot of crap, too."

"He was working, working, working, working, working, working. And he was depressed, sad," he revealed. "He looked happy, 'cause he was drunk all the time. Bon Scott drank all the time. Alcoholic. You see photographs of Bon Scott, he's always got a bottle or a drink all the time. Sad. Sad. But it killed him in the end. But he was going through a lot of hell, too, with the band."

Evans related Scott's experience with AC/DC to the hardships he went through when he was with the band. He disclosed there were reasons he split from the group, and not getting paid was one of them.

He compared his decision to a carpenter or teacher not getting any money from their jobs. Because he had bills to pay and a family to feed, he stood for himself and walked away.

Bon Scott Copied Dave Evans?

His recent statement resonated with what he told DJ Grant from New Zealand's Galaxy 107 FM in 2021. He revealed that Scott copied what he was doing, though he knew the late singer was told to do so.

"I know that he was under instructions to do this, so I don't really hold it against Bon Scott for that, because when he joined the band, he was washed up at the time, and he got a great chance to do something, and he did too. He did a great job, but his lifestyle just let him down," he went on.

Scott was found dead on February 19, 1980, after drinking out with his friends. Reports said he passed out in his car where he was choked to death on his own vomit, leading to his demise.
