David Letterman gets a front row seat to some of today's best bands, and last night the Late Show host was enthralled with Spoon's performance.
The band tore through a shimmering rendition of "Inside Out" before earning some serious praise from Letterman. The host was all smiles as he shook hands with the band, complimenting them every step of the way. "Honest to God, what do ya think?" Letterman shouted to the crowd before joking with bass player Rob Pope.
It has been a busy summer so far for the boys from Austin. In May, they left their label of 14 years, Merge Records, and began dropping teaser after teaser for their eighth studio effort. They Want My Soul was released last month on the band's new label, Loma Vista, and now the comeback is in full swing. "The sound isn't too much of a departure from the minimalist style they've stuck to in the past, but this time around it has expanded with little production elements that brighten and broaden the record," Music Times' Caitlin Carter wrote about the album.
Spoon's live performances haven't suffered much either after their four year break, and the band will wrap the U.S. leg of their tour at Austin City Limits in October before heading to Europe.
