    Between the announcement that Killer Mike has suffered a torn rotator cuff during the onstage attack upon Run The Jewels at South by Southwest to the Black Keys canceling another wave of tour dates so that Patrick Carney could recover from a dislocated shoulder he received from a giant wave in the Caribbean during January. In other words: It's been a bad week for musical shoulders. Music Times looked back at a collection of injuries to that region of the arm that other music figures have suffered on recent memory.

    Mariah Carey has had a tough go of things lately. A video has surfaced, much to the chagrin of Mariah Carey's camp, of the "Touch My Body" singer lip-syncing some of her biggest hits ("Fantasy" and "Always By My Baby") at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival this past Friday night Jan. 30. It is even more painful to watch because she is clearly missing her cues and seemingly forgets the words to some of her biggest songs, making it even more obvious and embarrassing. Now, in the former X Factor group's new song, it's all about Mariah Carey. Today (Jan. 28), Fifth Harmony released its latest single, the Tyga-featuring "Like Mariah," which samples the 1995 classic "Always Be My Baby."

    Everyone needs to calm down. Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey split in August, and rumors recently surfaced that the rapper has a diss track dedicated to his ex-wife on his next album. Cannon took to Twitter to silence those reports, assuring fans that there is nothing but love between the two, "Billboard" noted. "I will never say anything negative about @MariahCarey We are forever a family rooted in love," he wrote. Cannon was addressing a comment made by producer Mally Mall to TMZ a few days ago. When asked if Cannon and Carey would have a duet on the new album, Mall said, "Nah, but he's talking about Mariah on the records. There's going to be a lot of controversy." Mall added that Cannon has good and bad things to say about his ex on the album.

    Mariah Carey cannot catch a break. According to hip-hop producer Mally Mall, ex-husband Nick Cannon is getting ready to release an album in 2015 and he has something to say about Mariah on it — and it doesn't end there. Approached by gossip website TMZ at the airport waiting for his bag (as they love to do), Mally Mal was asked about what music he has coming up in 2015, where he takes the moment to mention his work with Nick Cannon that he is captaining. He is asked if fans can expect to hear a duet with Mariah and Cannon and Mall shares, "Nah, but he's talking about Mariah on the records. There's going to be a lot of controversy."

    Taylor Swift's "1989" moved back into the No. 1 spot on the "Billboard" 200, bringing its total, nonconsecutive weeks at the top to six. It sold 375,000 copies last week, bringing the total for the year to 3.34 million. The record is on pace to overtake the "Frozen" soundtrack, which sold 3.46 million so far. Nicki Minaj's "The Pinkprint" sits comfortably at the No. 2 spot, "Billboard" notes. Swift is tied with Mariah Carey for total weeks at No. 1 with 30. Only one other woman has them beat with 46: Whitney Houston. The Beatles are still in first for all artists with 132 weeks at No. 1. Pentatonix has the No. 3 spot with "That's Christmas to Me." Minaj was able to crack the top 10 recently, and D'Angelo's new "Black Messiah" hit No. 5. "The Pinkprint" did not perform as well as the artist's previous effort "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded." The former sold 244,000 in its first week while the latter hit 253,000 — it also debuted at No. 1.

    I wonder if when Irving Berlin finished writing "White Christmas" he knew he had created a timeless classic. Holiday music has become its own little business, with artists often taking time out of their recording schedule to put together an album of covers and originals. It has become a bloated industry — every pop star and washed-up rock band has a holiday record. Sometimes they are really just mailing it in for a payday. Other times, though, they create something special. Mariah Carey, Tom Petty and Queen all have original Christmas tunes that fit right into their musical styles. You have to give props to those artists who dare to pen a Christmas tune. It is easy to just put a signature spin on something like "Blue Christmas" or "The Christmas Song." Those are already accepted by throngs of holiday shoppers who hear them every year. But what about Billy Squier thumping on "Christmas Is the Time to Say 'I Love You'"? Or Joni Mitchell's heartbreaking anthem "River"? You certainly hear those ones less than Frank Sinatra singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" while you are driving to work in December. These tunes are significantly younger than most holiday standards, so perhaps one day they will be thought of as classics. Until then, we will just call them good songs.

    Things are not doing so well for Jermaine Dupri. The producer, singer, songwriter and performer had his home finally foreclosed upon according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He owed nearly $2.5 million on the 9,441-square-foot home, but was unable to make mortgage payments on the property that is valued at $3.7 million.
