The Life of Pablo has officially become Kanye West's eighth album to go platinum. This past Tuesday (April 4) the album reached platinum status according to a press release from West's label Def Jam

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed the report to Billboard

Def Jam claims that The Life of Pablo is the first album only available on streaming services to go platinum, but it has been reported that the album was briefly on sale on the rapper's official website when it was released back in February 2016.

It is currently unclear whether the album went platinum due to the sales in combination with the streams, as the RIAA does not break down the exact numbers. "Going platinum" equals a million equivalent album units, which can include traditional album sales, tracks sold from an album, and on-demand audio and video streams.

The Life of Pablo's release was a long time coming, as West changed the name several times before it was released and made several edits to the track list. "Famous" was the leading single from the album, which featured Chance the Rapper, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Chris Brown, and Frank Ocean amongst others. Following the release of the album, the rapper began a tour in support of it but canceled the remainder because of mental health issues.

Following West's release after his hospitalization, TMZ reported that the rapper had set up a music studio in his Bel-Air mansion and had begun working on a new album. It was rumored that West has been working with Pete Rock, who has posted studio photos to his social media accounts. One even showed a notepad with video game names written on it, which has fans thinking that the release of his project Turbo Grafx 16 is coming.
