Unfortunately, YouTube's 3.2 billion views of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's Latinx smash music video "Despacito" cannot be considered as a qualification to enter MTV Music Video Awards. How it all happened was just like a lightning-speed decision from MTV as the music video did not even have a turn to show up on MTV or MTV2. Being a music video that celebrates Latin American culture, MTV Tres makes it a point to show the trending single made by the two Puerto Rican artists.

In a recent report from EW, "Despacito" have no place at the upcoming MTV VMA on August 27 as there was also no motion to consider its popularity to even be nominated. Sadly, MTV did not expound the reason why YouTube's Most Watched Music Video was not able to conquer MTV US, the main channel.Universal Latin Music Entertainment, the company that produced the single, has expressed their willingness to distribute the Spanish video even on MTV but it never reached to that point.

Despite all this, Billboard reports that MTV will be acknowledging the song, not the music video, of "Despacito" as a nominee in its song of summer category within the week of August 21. To date, "Despacito" is the first video earning more than a billion views, and is still at the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 for the 14th week already. The purely Spanish song of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has sold more than 7.7 million copies and long since 1996, at the time of Los Del Rio's "Macarena" that a Spanish song tops the charts.

The reggaeton-pop song composed by the collaboration of Luis Fonsi, Erika Ender and Daddy Yankee is currently the most successful single of Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. Following the success of "Despacito" comes remixes from Puerto Rican musician Victor Manuelle, an electronic version produced by American trio Major Lazer and Colombian DJ MOSKA and an urban version produced by Sky. Justin Bieber's remix version has further increased the song's popularity to English-speaking countries.
