In a post made to their website on Tuesday, U2 hinted at another new album on the horizon, titled Songs of Experience, which should be "ready soon enough," according to lead vocalist Bono. This announcement came the same day that the band unexpectedly released its latest album Songs of Innocence for free on iTunes to coincide with the unveiling of Apple's iPhone 6 and iWatch.

"We're collaborating with Apple on some cool stuff over the next couple of years, innovations that will transform the way music is listened to and viewed," Bono wrote in a message on the band's website. "We'll keep you posted. If you like Songs of Innocence, stay with us for Songs of Experience. It should be ready soon enough...although I know I've said that before..."

It's unclear if this new album will be released for free just as Songs of Innocence was, though it's likely that the highly unusual Songs of Innocence release is a marketing ploy to stir up exciting for Songs of Experience. It seems very similar to the unconventional method of release for the final Death Grips album The Powers That B, whose first half (titled N***as On The Moon) was shared in June as a free download, and whose second half has yet to be released.

Songs of Experience would be the legendary band's 14th studio album. Prior to the surprise Tuesday (Sept. 9) release of Songs of Innocence, the band's last album was 2009's No Line On The Horizon, which was seen as a commercial disappointment.
