Killer Mike found himself in a whirlwind of controversy at the highly-anticipated 2024 Grammys.

The award-winning rapper, known as Michael Santiago Render, engaged in a heated confrontation with a security guard that led to his detainment.

In a video by journalist Chris Gardner shared on X, formerly Twitter, a man can be seen conversing with a companion as he cooperates with authorities.

Handcuffs and Headlines

The individual, identified as the 48-year-old rapper, was taken into a security room. Still, according to a source cited by the Hollywood Reporter, his detainment proved inconsequential, and he was expected to be released in the next few hours.

"Rapper Killer Mike has been taken away in handcuffs in Crypto.com arena after winning 3 Grammys during the telecast (Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for 'Scientists & Engineers,' Best Rap Album for Michael)."

The reporter added, "An official tells someone on his team that he may be released later tonight from the arena. Unclear if he's being booked here and what he's charged with."

According to several insiders, the incident on Sunday night has been downplayed as insignificant.

They assert that the alleged detainment of Killer Mike at the Crypto.com Arena was related to a minor offense utterly unrelated to the events that transpired within the venue that day.

Chris reported, "Just spoke to an official who tells me it's a misdemeanor and has nothing to do with anything that happened here inside the arena today. Likely, he will be released once it's sorted."

"It's a big nothing," a source told the reporter.

Contrary to speculation, TMZ reports that he was not taken into custody despite being seen in handcuffs.

Still A Winner

Before the uproar ensued, Killer Mike gracefully accepted all three Grammy awards that he had been nominated for this year.

The artist took home multiple accolades for his groundbreaking sixth studio album, titled "Michael." Triumphantly claiming the coveted title of Best Rap Album, he also secured victory in Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for his sensational hit, "Scientists & Engineers."

As one of the trophies was presented to him, Killer Mike reflected on his journey to success in the music scene, starting when his debut album, "Monster," was released in 2003.

"As a kid, I had a dream to become a part of music, and that 9-year-old is excitedly dancing and frightened inside of me right now."

In 2003, he was honored with a Grammy for his outstanding collaboration with OutKast on "The Whole World," earning them the title of the best rap performance by a duo or group.
